The Retail Training Programme

The Alzheimer Society, UK found that the main activity people with dementia continue to engage in is shopping. The programme is suitable for all types of retail outlets and aims to equip customer facing staff, whether a local shop or a large multiple organisation, with the skills to support and engage appropriately with customers with dementia.

On completion of the retail programme, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise when a person may have dementia
  • Identify common challenges a person with dementia may encounter in a retail situation
  • Consider a range of options for supporting the person when faced with these challenges
  • Identify ways of improving the retail environment to become more dementia friendly.
